Merry Christmas House!

It's 1 a.m. and we finally have the tree decorated. It's exciting to have a real tree this year. It's an 8ft fraser fir. We had a scare when our old lights started smoking, so we've upgraded to the led. Our living room is starting to come together really nicely. front parlor hasn't been touched since August, but at least we have a lot to be proud of on the first floor. This tree wouldn't have fit in the parlor anyway, but it looks elegant in our 8.5 ft tall living room.

Living Room Update: TV! & Decor!

We just had our new 46" t.v. installed over the fireplace and it looks really nice! woaaaah. We've added new window treatments and a fancy rug since the last post. I can't believe it, but it's starting to look like a room...in a home!

New Sectional Sofa!

We got a great deal at Wayside! We had been checking furniture websites for a while. We were looking for a modern sectional with a pillow back in a neutral shade. I think we got it exactly right. This is my favorite style because there's so much versatility and it's super comfy to slip back into. You can even swap out the pillows or move them around for different looks. The sand/wheat color and the modern style with dark wood legs works perfectly for our modern "beach" theme living room. I think it looks really high end. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the design on the accent pillows, but the colors actually compliment the colors we painted on the first floor, so I think it couldn't be more perfect, especially for the price.

Now, I can't wait to get a new tv installed over the fireplace. :D one thing at a time....we still need some window treatments first.

Dinner For Two

The curtains are in, and the mirror was installed last night! Yay! I love this mirror and I was very nervous about hanging it. It wasn't too hard. The new tablecloth is spill-proof and has a nice bamboo pattern. I decided to go with neutrals and let the new rug stand out. Isn't the centerpiece cute? That was my first late night craft project for the house. I love the location of the table now as it really opens up the space, and still allows for the table to extend and seat guests...as soon as a I have chairs to seat them in. :)

The other side of the room is going to become our yoga/meditation sanctuary. Mahogany bamboo blinds are being ordered for the double window. I'm having a dark walnut low minimal bench made custom at a steal price topped with large pillows in colors/designs that compliment the rug. That is up next! I will post a final before and after later on. ONE ROOM AT A TIME. that is my mantra.

Okay, I got a little bit excited. I LOVE this rug. It's exactly what I wanted and a good price. Perfect size for this space. I still have to scrub the floors. Look at Liam's baseboard job, 100% finished!

This is the early bones of the new dining area. I also bought an amazing silver mosaic star burst mirror that will go over the table, new curtain rod, new curtains, new table cloth, bamboo place mats. I made a modern centerpiece and now I'm looking for some fun modern chairs (maybe stack-able for space saving)....Well, it's just so exciting to see this odd space become gorgeous and functional.

Garage Siding Update

We finally had the vinyl siding put on the garage to match the house. It looks nice! The garage was in a condition to tear down when we bought the house, but with a new roof, new garage doors, re-facing, walls plumbed, and now some vinyl siding to seal out the weather and carpenter ants...it will be around for a few more decades. Sometimes vinyl siding isn't all that bad.

Living Room Painted!

We just finished putting the finishing touches on the paint job for the living room. The color is Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore. We are very happy with it. It's really a true gray with a hint of blue. It takes on a nice warm tone at night.

Things that were completed in here since 2008 include a new ceiling fan, ceiling repairs, a new ceiling texture, new laminate flooring, the original hearth tile cleaned up nicely, some electrical work, and of course all new paint. The fireplace is done in high gloss which glistens at night, and the rest of the trim is done in a soft white.

I like that this room has all its original windows and original front door. The french doors missing on the left leading to the little sun room will be replaced sometime this fall hopefully.

It's hard to remember what it was like back then, and the photos sort of make me tear up. The hardwood was covered in paint, the fan was about to fall out of the ceiling. But I just saw love, and beauty in the bones...
